38. Deutscher Naturschutztag 2026
10. März 2026 - 14. März 2026, Berlin Der größte deutsche Naturschutzkongress bietet Expertise und Beteiligung zu topaktuellen Themen! Der 38. Deutsche Naturschutztag (DNT) stellt die vielfältigen Beziehungen zwischen Mensch und Natur in den Mittelpunkt – sie beeinflussen unsere planetare Zukunft entscheidend. Im Fokus stehen die Grundlagen erfolgreichen Naturschutzes: Wir wollen die Zukunftsfähigkeit heutiger Instrumente und Strategien verbessern und widmen uns dem Stadtnaturschutz ebenso wie Herausforderungen auf Landschaftsebene. Zudem diskutieren wir innovative Ansätze im Monitoring und in der Finanzierung von Naturschutzmaßnahmen und bewerten neue rechtliche Vorgaben – etwa zur Planungsbeschleunigung, zur Wiederherstellung der Natur oder zum Ausbau erneuerbarer Energien. 19th Annual International Biocuration Conference
20. April 2026 - 24. April 2026, Kapstadt In partnership with the African Genomics Data Hub (AfriGen-D) and the Sickle Africa Data Coordinating Center (SADaCC), the ABI is proud to be involved in the 19th Annual International Biocuration Conference for the International Society of Biocuration (ISB). This is the first time the conference will be hosted on the African continent, scheduled for the 20th to 24th April 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa. The 19th Annual International Biocuration Conference provides a forum for curators, developers, and users of clinical and life sciences data, knowledge, and models to discuss their work, promote collaboration, and foster the community around this active and growing area of research. This conference is organized in part with the International Society of Biocuration (ISB). |

BE20 Conference 2026 - Emerging Topics in Long-Term and Large-Scale Biodiversity Research
8. Juni 2026 - 12. Juni 2026, Berlin We warmly invite all biodiversity researchers worldwide, to join us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Biodiversity Exploratories at the first international BE20 Conference. The event will take place from June 8–12, 2026 at the Langenbeck-Virchow Haus in Berlin under the theme: “Integrating Emerging Topics in Long-Term and Large-Scale Biodiversity Research” The conference will begin on Monday evening, June 8, 2026, with an opening lecture, followed by a welcome reception. From Tuesday, June 9, 2026, to Thursday, June 11, 2026, participants will have the opportunity to present talks in various sessions across different disciplines of long-term biodiversity research. We are excited to welcome several renowned keynote speakers, who will provide inspiring insights into long-term and large-scale biodiversity research. More information can be found under “Keynotes”. In addition, the conference will feature workshops, discussion panels and social events to promote interdisciplinary exchange. On Friday, June 12, 2026, participants will have the opportunity to join a special excursion to our Schorfheide-Chorin exploratory, offering exclusive insights into the research conducted within the Biodiversity Exploratories. The conference aims to bring together scientists from around the world and to create an interdisciplinary platform for discussing current challenges in long-term and large-scale biodiversity research. We look forward to numerous exciting contributions, lively discussions, and international exchange! World Biodiversity Forum (WBF)
14. Juni 2026 - 19. Juni 2026, Davos Under the theme of Leading Transformation Together, the fourth edition of the World Biodiversity Forum WBF will take place from Sunday, 14 June to Friday, 19 June 2026 in Davos, Switzerland. Bending the curve of biodiversity loss, and addressing the interconnected planetary crises that negatively impact planetary health and social justice requires the development of actionable solutions based on the best available knowledge, jointly across sectors and generations. It also requires addressing the root causes of these crises, current social and cultural pattern and practices, by co-developing biodiversity-positive futures, and creating structures and practices that are just and equitable. Also, the operationalization of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework urgently needs strong support beyond the governmental structures. The World Biodiversity Forum 2026 contributes to these developments by convening the community to build broad and strong leadership and networks for transformation, bringing science, arts, society, and businesses together, across generations. WBF2026 builds on the valuable experience from previous World Biodiversity Forums. |

68th Annual Symposium of the International Association for Vegetation Science: Understanding Ecosystems through Vegetation
22. Juni 2026 - 26. Juni 2026, Gijón The 68th IAVS Symposium will focus on “Understanding Ecosystems through Vegetation”. We aim to highlight the importance of vegetation studies in advancing basic and applied research on the biodiversity of world ecosystems. We welcome submissions focusing on plant communities and related topics, including biodiversity and conservation, climate change, restoration of native plants, community assembly, forestry, functional ecology, macroecology, mycorrhizal research, paleoecology, plant invasions, anthropogenic vegetation, Earth Observation approaches, or vegetation classification. |

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) at 200: Science, Society, and the Natural World

Juli 2026, London This three-day international meeting, held in SHNH’s 90th year, will mark the bicentenary of the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and delve into its history and impact on our knowledge of the natural world. Founded in the age of empire and Enlightenment science, ZSL has shaped – and been shaped by – transformations in zoological knowledge, conservation practice, and human-animal relations. The bicentenary offers a timely opportunity to explore ZSL’s history and to reflect on its legacy in Britain and beyond. Founded in 1826 by Sir Stamford Raffles, the ZSL became a cornerstone of British scientific life. Within just a few years it had opened the London Zoo (1828), received a Royal Charter (1829), and absorbed the collections of the royal menagerie, once housed at the Tower of London (1831). Throughout the nineteenth century, ZSL pioneered public zoological attractions, including the world’s first Reptile House (1849) and Aquarium (1850). Iconic animals such as Obaysch the hippopotamus and Jumbo the elephant became cultural phenomena, while figures like Charles Darwin and Evelyn Cheesman shaped its scientific reputation.
